ME, LENNART GULDBRANDSSONBackgroundI graduated with honours from Institutet för Högre TV-utbildning (The Swedish School of Television) in 2002. My teacher there was Morgan Jensen, writer of several "Brottsvåg"-episodes. During trainee weeks, I was stationed first at the Swedish production company MTV, and later with independent film company, Ugglanfilm. My collected works from that period include a short film, called "På fötterna" (On your feet), and an episode of "En dans på rosor" (A bed of roses), the school drama series, but also bibles for several TV-series, as yet unsold, and some short film scripts. Before I studied at IHTV, I was a member of a theatre club at one of the student associations in Uppsala. There I directed Woody Allen´s play "Drick inte vattnet!" (Don´t drink the water!), which became a great public success. After that I starred in another play, "Hjärtat ingen kunde nå" (The heart nobody could reach), by Anders Holmberg and Anders Almgren. In 2000, I participated in the script contest "Göteborgsdramat", with a series of my own, called "Västskydd" (WestProtect), and later I completed my first motion picture script, "Kent och Katarina" (Kent and Katarina), a romantic comedy about switching gender roles. My second screenplay was an adaptation of Hans Alfredson´s novel, "Attentatet i Pålsjö skog" (The terrorist act in Pålsjö forest), a story about what could have happened, should Sweden have been dragged into the Second World War. Since then I´ve developed an advent calendar series with two friends from IHTV, which was turned down by national television company, Sveriges Television. It has later been rewritten into a novel for teenagers, and I am in the process of selling it. During the summer of 2004, my short film "Plastpappa" (Stepdad) is being produced by myself and some friends. We´re shooting it in Gothenburg and are now in the stage of cutting it. Hopefully it will be ready for the Uppsala Short Film Festival in the spring. The site So what am I doing here? Why this site? I could think of several reasons for publishing a page about screenwriting - the dire need for *good* advice, a shortage of pages on screenwriting, or too much spare time. Well, we could probably rule out the first one right now. And the fact is that there are quite a few good sites out there. Like the one that inspired me: Wordplay. For more good sites, see, the links section. Let´s not forget that there are some very good books too. (See the Library). Which brings us back to "why am I here"? I´m here, because however many books are written, and how many pages are published, I have always felt that there is something missing. These sites and books tend to ignore the real world, and the fact that writers are not stupid, and have probably read a lot before coming to them. But they´re so into their own theories that they forget to ask themselves: "will my theory actually have a basis in films or television?" In short, they are not very useful for the average writer. But I hope that you will find this site a tad more useful. Why the name Hannibal? Well, it occured to me a few years ago that many of my favourite characters was called Hannibal: Dr Lecter in Thomas Harris´ books and the films that followed, Col John "Hannibal" Smith in The A-team, and Hannibal Heyes in Alias Smith and Jones. And then there´s the dog in The Man without a Past... It just couldn´t be a coincidence. That name had to be blessed.
