The history of movie and television technology

YEAR EVENT
1830 The Zoetrope is invented. It consisted of a spinning drum with slits that you could see small pictures through, making it seem that they moved.
1895 The Lumière brothers had their first public showing of a short movie.
1907 deForest invents amplified sound, thus enabling recording and reproduction of sound.
1922 Emergence of first colour reproduction system, with only two colours.
1924 Scotsman Baird invents television. The first system had only five lines, compared to today´s about 625 lines.
1926 Vitaphone synchronises sound with picture. The sound was stored on 78 records.
1927 The first television pictures are sent across the Atlantic ocean.
1927 The movie "The Jazz singer", starring Al Jolson, had parts with synchronised sound.
1935 Feature films in colour.
1952 The 3D-format was developed as a way to combat the competion from TV.
1953 CinemaScope and 4-channel sound was developed, also to win back audience from TV.
1980s The homevideo and satellite TV are introduced worldwide, as well as computer games and video games.
1996 The first fully computer animated feature film, Toy Story, comes out.
