SM U 1

SM U 1 is the last surviving submarine from the beginning of the German submarine construction.After its launching on Aug 4, 1906, it was put into service of the Imperial Navy on Dec 14, 1906 as a test boat in Submarine Flotilla 1. With the start of WW 1 it was assigned to the the Submarine School in Eckernfoerde as a training boat.It was taken out of service after the war on Dec 19, 1919.The Germaniawerft Kiel purchased it as a museum exhibit.
It was restored after being damaged during WW 2 and put on display in the German Museum in Munich where it can still be admired today
